Overview

The book is a short work, decidedly non-linear and plotless (generally) in its composition. It follows the span of one whole day and does not exceed beyond that, and the chapters are marked with the respective hour of the day. The only time a conventional plot makes an appearance is through the main character's own novel, which he busies himself in writing throughout the progression of the book (yes, it is a novel within a novel). In between the writings, however, it is all self-reflection and inward communication, so that the whole book never leaves Ohnsoc's psyche. He struggles between the disposition of a religious holy man and a pedantic philosopher, and the explosion betwixt the two dispositions takes form in my section titled 'the devil visits the philosopher' which I believe to be one of the more (if not the most) important section. In short, he embodies both morbid philosophical skepticism and prophetic spiritual prowess, which is characteristically indifferent to systematic reason and is non-linear in its essence, so that his mind and soul are two separate entities entirely. The work can be identified as an exposition into the dramatic discrepancy between the two methods of understanding. My main character seems to be the perfect solipsist, and the work can be described as a battle against an irreversible plight into an increasingly isolating solipsism. The end is largely ambigious, but most likely it is a suicide. I am even unsure. Also, there is romance. Although I would not call it so, for he is in love with a woman whom he never speaks to, which is a further testament to his irreversible solipsism. Yes, the essential point of the perfect solipsist; he worships his ideas and feelings and is more or less indifferent to the object of those ideas and feelings.
